I have a friend whose son, at just 11 years old, is violent towards her.  She's had to call the police several times.  I have said to her that I am seriously worried that either he will be put into juvie, or either one or both of them will end up dead.

There are so, so many problems that would be solved or alleviated if we had a better standard of mental healthcare. Homeless people, mainly made up of runaways, abuse survivors and drug addicts. Women murdering their children. Men murdering their wives, mothers. People stuck miserable on long-term sickness, being painted as leeches and scroungers when they’re too sick to hold down a normal job. It’s all just sad.

While it's tragic as almost all murders are... that seems quite low?

The murder rate in the UK is just about 10 per year per million people. UK has about 69 (nice) million people, so we're looking at near enough 690 recorded murders a year.

They won't be, but if we imagine the 170 murders are split evenly over 15 years that's 11 a year. 11/690 murders every year being mothers doesn't seem like it'd be disproportionate with the overall demographics of who kills who? Especially when you take out gang violence, traditionally murders take place mostly between people who know each other. Doesn't really sound like a catastrophic systemic issue the article wants it to be. Don't get me wrong, still tragic, but also seems like a bit of a nothing story that it'd be nearly impossible to do anything about.

I also dislike the term "femicide" used in the article. Sounds like a bad pest control chemical.

In how many of these scenarios, were the mothers/parents abusive to the sons prior to the murder?

Having worked in retail &amp; law, I've seen plenty of abusive parents in person and in court,  if a woman kills her abusive boyfriend then we are sympathetic towards them (rightfully so in my opinion) but when a parent is abusive to a child for potentially a decade+ and the individual kills their parents, its Ultimate sin.

Call it victim blaming but i likely know 1 of these 170 as i went to school with him and saw first hand how vile his parents treated him for years on end, it didn't come as a shock that he snapped and did what he did.

Murder is never ok but there are so absolutely vile parents out there.

Aren't most murders emotional, and both victim and perpetrator usually know each other well (ie spouse, sibling)?

Parents. Young men with the strength to cause harm need strong and firm discipline that is backed by strong and firm consequences. 
Am an old man. Been a man for a long time and men have been the same for a very very long time. Hard coded into some of us the need to fight and rebel. 
Softly softly is not the way to discipline a testosterone fueled rage.
And letting it slide once sets the standard that it's okay, maybe even rewarded by the boy is getting his own way in the end. 
I appreciate it's a hard thing to do, be firm and resolute in the face of your upset and emotionally heightened children. But that angry violent boy will be someone boyfriend soon. 
Don't let your inaction be the cause of another woman's suffering. 
And not every boy is the same. I was the angry young lad, my brother was the polar opposite, the epitome of peace and serenity. I dread to think how I would have turned out if not for my mum standing up to me and not backing down.

Probably all single mums. They should have made better decisions. These women most likely raised the young boys in such a way that they developed hatred for women. Yet another reason why young boys need strong male role models. This wasn't a problem when the family unit was respected just another indicator of the rot that a socialist fatherless state has brought us.

It's amazing how many posts on here mention how the state should offer more support. This is madness, in my opionon the state offers too much support in the form of benefits which disempower people and allows women to make bad decisions. Less support is the answer where people control their own lives away from welfare. Where women will have to live with their decisions and not use the state as a cash cow, instead being forced to make relationships work or even get married for the traditional reasons, I.e. to provide stability for the family unit.

Sharon Carr is one of the most unique cases I have ever read about. For any 12 year old to commit a sexually motivated murder is exceptionally unusual, for the perpetrator to be a female is almost entirely unheard of.

The two that make me sad are the ones where a child is left to babysit a sibling. Why are you leaving a 6yo in a car with a baby for almost 2 hours? And why is an 11yo babysitting 5 other kids at night? These kids were dealt bad hands.

It stands out to me that most of them experienced severe neglect/abuse, interesting what that does to the brain but nonetheless, incredibly devastating. I feel horrible for the children that came from the environment and the victims of highly preventable crimes.

If you want an interesting story about a child murderer, look up Jesse Pomeroy. It's a fascinating case. 
He was actually sent to Boys Town first for assaulting two children, but his mom begged for him to be let out. 
He killed two children within days of each other not long after returning home. 
He was 13.

The jumping rope murder in Ljungby, Sweden

On october 16 2011, a 4 year old boy went missing in the town of Ljungby, Sweden. He had been at the playground. I think he was with a sibling although i'm not entirely sure. I know you might be thinking it is wrong to let a 4 year old wander around the block by himself without supervision but Ljungby is still quite a small town and i guess that they thought it was safe. 

He was found strangled to death in a small wooded area.  

2 months after the murder it was announced that the murder has officially been solved and that the perpetrator was a 10 year old boy who due to his age could not be charged with a crime. Social services took over this case at that point.

The boy was described as having a temper and he did have a history of getting into fights with other kids. Apparently, some sort of argument occurred at the playground and it escalated to an assault and finally, the 4 year old was strangled to death with a jumping rope. 

The murder was most likely a crime of passion and not premeditated. 

We know that the boy was relocated to another town but there are a lot of information still left out becauae he was only 10 years old at the time

Well done write up! Made me think of a case in England where 2 young boys (11 and 12?) lured a 5 year old away from the mall he qas in with hus mum and murdered him. It's been a while ago so their names allude me, but I think one of them was named Adam. They were both released, and one of them is now back in prison as he's a repeat offender sadly.

I spent 20 years working corrections.  The first few were with juvenile violent offenders.  In my career, I worked with 2 twelve year olds that killed.  

One killed his elderly foster parents because they made him sit at the table until his homework was done.  He laid in the bathtub late one night with a stolen shotgun.  He banged on the tub to draw in the man and shot him in the chest.  The woman, hearing the shotgun blast, went to the bathroom and she was shot in the head.  He then stole their pickup to run away, but only got a few miles down the road before being caught.  He never showed any remorse and was released when he turned 21.  

The other bludgeoned a seven year old with downs syndrome before attempting to rape him.  After failing, he drown the boy in the river next to their campsite.  No remorse, except for being caught.  Released at 21.

Teenage violence is getting out of control. Children will think nothing of causing serious harm or murder. Maybe I’m jaded because I work in the justice field. But I worry for my nieces and nephews. One has entered year 7 this year and has been threatened with knives kids have bought to school. More needs to be done. The way we treat youth justice in this country doesn’t work. That's shocking, my son was 12 only 4 weeks ago. These kids have their heads filled with shit on the internet, and they have no understanding of consequences. I don't think in a lot of cases its Andrew Tate or radicalisation. I think these kids are exposed to YouTube and games etc where there is no seriousness put on somebody dying or being stabbed 

I wouldn't be surprised if at least one of these kids didn't think for one minute that what they did would cause somebody to die.

Another waste of life all around, the victim of course, then these kids will get 10-15 years detention and supervised for life.
